Community Standards
The Pier — a social and cruising platform for adult gay men in New York City.
These standards apply everywhere on the platform — public rooms, private rooms, direct messages, profiles, photographs, and anything else a person can post or send.
You must be 18 or older
The Pier is for adults. You must be at least 18 years old to create an account or use any part of this platform.
Accounts found to belong to anyone under 18 are removed.
Child sexual abuse material is prohibited
Child sexual abuse material — any visual depiction of sexually explicit conduct involving a person under 18 years of age — is absolutely prohibited on The Pier. This includes photographs, video, computer-generated imagery, and any other visual depiction, regardless of how it was produced.
Also prohibited: any attempt to solicit, arrange, advertise, or facilitate the sexual exploitation of a minor, and any use of this platform to contact or groom a person under 18.
Every image uploaded to The Pier is screened against known child sexual abuse material before it is made visible to anyone. Screening uses PhotoDNA.
We report to the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children. Where we obtain actual knowledge of apparent child sexual abuse material, we file a report with NCMEC's CyberTipline, as required by 18 U.S.C. § 2258A. The account is suspended immediately, and account information, image data and associated metadata are preserved for law enforcement.
There is no warning, no appeal on first instance, and no exception.
Non-consensual intimate imagery is prohibited
Do not post or send an intimate image of anyone who has not agreed to it being shared.
This includes intimate images of a former or current partner shared without their agreement, images obtained by hacking, theft or deception, images recorded without the subject's knowledge, and any threat to share such an image.
Intimate imagery of a person who has not consented to its distribution is prohibited whether or not that person is a user of this platform.
If an intimate image of you has been posted here without your agreement, contact us at safety@thepier.ai and it will be removed. You do not need an account to make that report.
Post photographs of yourself, not of other people
Your profile must represent you. Do not use photographs of another person as your own.
When posting about someone you saw — a missed connection — post a picture of yourself, or of the place you were. Do not post a photograph of a person who has not agreed to appear on this platform.
A person's presence on The Pier says something about them that they may not have chosen to say publicly. Putting someone else's face here, in a city, at a location, is a serious thing to do to them. It is prohibited.
Also prohibited
- Harassment, threats, stalking, or repeated unwanted contact
- Impersonating another person
- Sexual content involving coercion, or anyone who has not consented
- Content depicting violence against a person
- Sharing another person's private information without their agreement
- Buying or selling sexual services
- Using this platform to arrange anything illegal
Reporting
Report anything on this platform that breaks these standards using the report control on any profile, post or message, or by writing to safety@thepier.ai.
Reports about child sexual abuse material and non-consensual intimate imagery are prioritised and acted on without waiting for a review queue.
You do not need an account to report. If content on The Pier concerns you and you are not a member, write to safety@thepier.ai.
What happens when these standards are broken
Depending on what has happened: content is removed, an account is suspended, or an account is permanently closed.
For child sexual abuse material, suspension is immediate and a report is filed with NCMEC. For non-consensual intimate imagery, content is removed on report and the account is suspended pending review.
Where required by law, we cooperate with law enforcement.
